CLOUD FOREST

G A R D E N S B Y T H E B A Y S I N G A P O R E

On a business trip to Singapore we had an opportunity to visit the Cloud Forest Conservatory at Gardens by the Bay. This man made mountain consisted of diverse vegetation and floral gems. We encountered the worlds tallest waterfall of 30 metres which descended through the mist filled treetop walk while exploring the tropical highlands amidst orchids, pitcher plants and ferns from the cool-moist Tropical Montane region. It was a great opportunity to learn more about rare plants and their fast disappearing environment. This unique habitat made me contemplate the future of our planet with global warming on the rise and question if this is the way future generations will get to experience plants that we see in our rainforests. By learning about causes and consequences of a loss of biodiversity one can appreciate the importance of measures to reduce its impact.
